Ahead of the Specsavers Ashes 2019 Series the ECB appointed us to create a brand new identity for the tournament. For us the word “Ashes” wields all the power in the global sporting context and has no need to be adorned with cricket balls, bats, wickets or representations of the Urn. This thinking developed out of early creative sessions and put us on the pathway towards a crafted approach exploring bespoke typography aiming at a premium and memorable essence.

By electing to draw the new identity by hand we were given the freedom to focus on specific letterforms and the relationship between them within the wordmark.
